![]() ![]() Used LPs can run about $20 without having a good reason to be $20. If I had one complaint about the place, it's that much of the material is pretty over-priced, especially considering that it's used. There may have even been reel-to-reel decks floating around, for that matter. The equipment runs from old-school tuners to more complicated home stereo amplifiers, to specific players for vinyl, cassettes and even 8-track tapes. In addition to the records, they also carry used stereo equipment and jukeboxes (I didn't look at these too closely, so I don't know if those are used as well). (I do see that another visitor DID take pics, and they convey it pretty well.) I don't really know why, but I was willing to respect that. It's kind of tough to describe, and I'd show a photo but unfortunately they don't allow photography in the store. The records have been organized into big plastic tubs, and in some cases you'll need the rolling step stool that's among the shelves in order to get yourself into a position to see what's in the bins. Rock is on these shelves, Jazz over here, Classical in this section. The owner will give you the basic rundown of the place, e.g. While the 45s aren't in good order other than being grouped alphabetically by artist (as in, all the As are together, all the Bs, etc), with a few genres sorted out, the albums are both alphabetized and sorted by genre, with other, specific sections given over to more popular artists (Beatles, Beach Boys) or niches (promotional copies). So I was happy to see the level of organization that was present at A Matter of Record. ![]() Those records are often a remnant of an estate sale or some other thing, and as a result they're usually in no particular order, which can make sorting through them a little tiresome, especially if you have a specific record in mind. As someone who likes to scrounge around in antique shops, many times I come to a consignment booth which also happens to have records in it. ![]()
